National Dog Day

Mark your calendars: National Dog Day is coming up August 26th! This is a great time for you to show your adorable and faithful pet some extra TLC. Read on as an Orangevale, CA vet offer some great tips on how to get Fido’s furry tail wagging on his special day.

Puppy Play Zone

Does Fido have a yard to patrol and chase squirrels around in? Make your pet’s outdoor area more fun by adding a wading pool for him to splash around in. Or, give your canine pal a sandbox, and bury some toys in it for him to dig up.

Swim Time

Does your four-legged buddy love swimming? Treat Fido to a fun day at a doggy pool, or take him to a pet-friendly beach. Keep a close eye on your furry friend when he’s near the water, and avoid areas with strong currents or a lot of wakes.

Photo Session

Enlist a friend or family member to help you get some cute photos of your canine companion just being his regular adorable self. To take advantage of the best natural light, schedule Fido’s photo shoot for dusk or dawn. (Tip: Try downloading some pet camera apps for your phone.)

New Digs

If you really want to go all out, get your furry pal a new doghouse. Fido loves having a spot all of his own! Do a bit of research before you go shopping, and choose one that is well-insulated and offers great protection from weather.

Frozen Snacks

Want to score some extra tail wags? Pick up some doggy ice cream for Fido at a pet store or grocery market. You can also make your canine buddy some delicious homemade treats. You’ll find lots of great recipes online. Just be sure to only use ingredients that are safe for dogs. Ask your vet for more specific recommendations.

Doggy Bed Pupgrade

Did you know that our canine friends spend about half of their time sleeping? Get your pooch a comfy new doggy bed. If your four-legged friend is a senior or large breed, he may appreciate the extra support of an orthopedic bed. Smaller dogs, on the other hand, may prefer bolstered beds.
