DIY Kitty Furniture

One of the best ways to pamper your cat and keep her happy and purring, is to get her some furniture of her own. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on this: you can actually make your feline buddy’s things. Read on as an Orangevale, CA vet lists some great DIY ideas for things you can make for Fluffy.

Cat Tower

You can make Fluffy a cat tower out of an old stepladder. Just use planks to widen out the shelves, and wrap the whole thing in carpet or sisal rope. This also works with bookshelves and metal storage racks.

Scratching Post

To make Fluffy a scratching post, simply attach a piece of carpet to a board. Then, nail the board to the wall, slightly above your furry friend’s head.

Window Seat

Birdwatching is one of Fluffy’s favorite activities! Get a smooth board, and widen out your windowsill into a kitty lounging spot. For extra purrs, attach a pillow or pet bed, using Velcro.

Catwalk

Many of our feline pals really love high places. You can make your kitty a catwalk out of sturdy shelves. This is a great option for a catio! Just be sure the shelves are securely fastened, so Fluffy doesn’t fall off.

Beds

There’s just no such thing as too many beds, as far as Fluffy is concerned. Put soft pillows or blankets into a wicker basket, plastic storage tote, or even a cardboard box. Voila!

More Beds

Want to make something a little more attractive? Get an end table with doors, and remove the doors. Paint it or varnish it if you like. You can brighten up the inside with contact paper. Then, add soft bedding.

Even More Beds

Other things you can make into cat beds include hard-shell suitcases, hatboxes, and wooden crates. You can even turn a sweater into a pet bed. Sew the wrists and torso closed. Then, attach then together in an oval shape. Fill it with stuffing, and then close up the neck. Done!

Kitty Tent

You can make Fluffy a cat tent out of a wire hanger and an old tee shirt. This is a great option for kitties that are timid or shy! Many scaredy-cats love small spaces, as they feel safer in enclosed areas.
