Things Your Dog Will Do This Holiday Season

The holiday season is officially here! It’s always great to spend time with our friends and family, and carry on seasonal traditions, such as watching specific movies or listening to certain carols. As it turns out, our canine friends also have a few traditions of their own. Read on as a Folsom, CA vet lists some things Fido will do over the holidays.

Beg For Treats

Dogs are very, very enthusiastic about food. Your pup will definitely take note when those delicious dishes start coming out of the oven! Never give Fido anything that contains garlic, onion, scallions, or chives; chocolate; caffeine; grapes, currants, or raisins; pitted fruits; or anything containing xylitol. Meat on the bone is also unsafe, as are raw meat, dough, or yeast. You can offer your pet plain, uncooked meat, fish, or poultry, without the skin, bones, or fat. A little deli meat is also fine. Ask your vet for more information.

Let You Know When Guests Arrive

Dogs have held many jobs over the years. They’ve been our guardians, assistants, and hunting buddies, and have also protected and herded our livestock. One duty Fido takes very seriously is his official door doggy position. Your pooch will definitely let you know if someone comes to visit!

Enjoy Some Quality Time With You

Many people take some vacation time at this time of year, so they can be with their friends and families. Fido may notice if your routine changes. Don’t be surprised if your pooch runs up to you with his favorite toy, or begs for a walk just to go sniff grass. You’re the apple of your dog’s eye, and the center of his universe! Your canine buddy would be delighted with some extra attention. Take him for a walk in a new park, or indulge him in a long play session.

Enjoy A New Gift

Fido is always thrilled with a new gift, no matter what day of the year it is. Get that tail wagging by offering your pet a new toy or some yummy treats. A good doggy bed is another safe option. If you have a yard, you can even get your pup his own doghouse, or perhaps a kiddie pool to splash around in.

Happy Holidays! Please reach out to us, your Folsom, CA vet clinic, anytime. We are here to help!
