Platelet-Rich Plasma

Platelet Rich Plasma

Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP, is a blood component containing concentrated amounts of platelets and growth factors. This is a newly trending treatment in human sports orthopedic medicine, used for many sports injuries and wear-and-tear issues. At Veterinary Healing Center in Folsom, we use MediVet Biologics’ Platelet Rich Plasma Kit.

This breakthrough product for pets uses your pets own blood plasma with concentrated platelets that we activate.  Platelets contain growth factors and bioactive proteins, which can initiate tissue healing and assist with inflammation.  Once activated, the healing properties of the proteins and growth factors become accelerated, offering an all-natural alternative to drugs like narcotics and steroids. This allows for a non-surgical means of providing high doses of the body’s own healing factors directly to the areas where they are needed.

Medivet’s PRP Kit can be introduced topically in or around an injured joint, tendon, or used in its gel form to treat large burns or wounds. MediVet’s PRP is not limited to acute injuries, it can also be used for chronic conditions.

Brought PeeWee, who lost use of his back legs, in today for the first time and were treated with calm and care. I love the Eastern approach and we all have high hopes that acupuncture, laser treatment, and some herbs will fix the hitch in his giddyup and restore his youthful step again. Fingers crossed.

We have been taking our Labrador to The Veterinary Healing Center for almost two years to treat her with eastern medicine/procedures for radiating pain from her neck to down her front leg. After about 6 acupuncture treatments and cervical formula powder supplements we saw a remarkable improvement! She went from limping and barely able to climb stairs to running around the yard and jumping into the pool! She was like a brand new dog! We continue with monthly maintenance treatments and we couldn’t be happier with the results! We now take our English Golden Retriever puppy there for checkups!

The Veterinary Healing Center in El Dorado Hills is fantastic. My cat Marshmallow and I have been with them for a year. I brought Marshmallow there for a second opinion about his breathing problems because of asthma and upper respiratory issues. He was getting injections about every 6 weeks, and those many trips to the vet were very stressful on him. Dr. McKerney, took Marshmallow off the injections - steroids and convenia – and put him on a tablet of doxycycline. She felt that his main issue is upper respiratory. Marsh has not had any breathing problems for a year, and he is happy to take his pill in a pill pocket! I have such a positive experience when Marshmallow and I visit. Marsh is not the best behaved patient, and Dr. McKerney is wonderful and is always so patient and gentle with him, and the staff is patient and gentle with him, too – I am grateful, and thankful!!

Our dog Mucho was in intense pain last Christmas and having trouble walking. After a few weeks of rest and pain medication Dr Cahoon began treating him with laser and acupuncture therapy along with Chinese herbs. We are happy to report Mucho is now a happy active fellow. As we continue with his therapy, we are very grateful for this wonderful veterinary clinic.
