Wellness & Vaccinations

At Veterinary Healing Center of Folsom, we believe that with animals, just as with humans, prevention is always the best medicine. The more proactive we are about managing your pet’s health, the better the chances that he or she will enjoy many happy, healthy years by your side. We know that a long, healthy life for your pet is important to you, which is why it’s equally important to us! We also know that achieving this goal starts with a solid foundation of wellness care.

Through annual physical exams, disease prevention, and early detection, we will set your loved one on the path to a lifetime of good health. Our wellness care services are designed to meet all of your pet’s changing health care needs through every stage of life – from birth through the senior years, and every step along the way. This individualized approach ensures that your pet will always receive the most precise and effective care he or she needs, each and every time you visit with us.

What is wellness care?

Just as our own doctors recommend that we have check-ups once a year, pets need to be examined on a regular basis, too. These routine visits include comprehensive physical exams, which allow us to gather a clear and accurate snapshot of your pet’s overall health. We can then use this information as a guideline to measure future visits against, looking for any changes. The sooner we identify a potential health concern, the more effectively we can address it and the better the chances of a positive outcome for your pet.

Wellness visits involve all of the following:

  • Physical “nose to tail” exam
  • Customized vaccination plan
  • Parasite prevention and control
  • Nutrition and weight management

We’ll also discuss with you and make recommendations on other important things, such as microchip identification, spay/neuter procedures, behavioral issues, and more. Depending on your pet’s age and health status, the doctor may also recommend certain routine diagnostic tests to help us further evaluate your companion’s overall well-being.

Getting to know you…

Finally, although certainly no less important, wellness visits provide the perfect opportunity for all of us at Veterinary Healing Center of Folsom to get to know you and to develop a bond with your pet. This is important, because the more your loved one comes to know and trust us, the more comfortable and at ease he or she will be during visits, which will improve the quality of care we can deliver.

Simply put, the benefits of routine wellness care can add years to your pet’s life, and improve the quality of those years ten-fold. Don’t take chances with your loved one’s health. Let’s work together to help that special little guy or girl achieve optimum health for life!

Brought PeeWee, who lost use of his back legs, in today for the first time and were treated with calm and care. I love the Eastern approach and we all have high hopes that acupuncture, laser treatment, and some herbs will fix the hitch in his giddyup and restore his youthful step again. Fingers crossed.

The Veterinary Healing Center in El Dorado Hills is fantastic. My cat Marshmallow and I have been with them for a year. I brought Marshmallow there for a second opinion about his breathing problems because of asthma and upper respiratory issues. He was getting injections about every 6 weeks, and those many trips to the vet were very stressful on him. Dr. McKerney, took Marshmallow off the injections - steroids and convenia – and put him on a tablet of doxycycline. She felt that his main issue is upper respiratory. Marsh has not had any breathing problems for a year, and he is happy to take his pill in a pill pocket! I have such a positive experience when Marshmallow and I visit. Marsh is not the best behaved patient, and Dr. McKerney is wonderful and is always so patient and gentle with him, and the staff is patient and gentle with him, too – I am grateful, and thankful!!

I'm always comfortable taking my pets to see Dr. Cahoon, whether it's my rats or my dog he has always shown compassion. He never overcomplicates a situation or problem which always makes the visit a little bit easier. He has been seeing my 10 year old epileptic dog since he was a puppy and recently performed a very successful surgery on my rat(yes rat💗🐀 )

I'm very happy with Veterinary Healing Center of El Dorado Hills. They have treated both my dogs, and have specialized their treatment to their individual needs. I appreciate the fact they are interested in what's best for the dog, not what I've experienced with other clinicians.
